Team of AVT.FVT wins chemPLANT competition!


At this year's ProcessNet Annual Meeting, the AVT.FVT team - consisting of Christian Certa, Philip Kotulski, Stefanie Riske and Christopher Schmetz - took first place at the premiere of the chemPLANT competition (

With its approach to the chemical storage of electrical energy from wind power in methanol, the team was able to prevail against the competitors from other universities. The competition started with 19 teams. After evaluating the submitted concept papers, 8 teams were allowed to present their work on a poster. In the next round, 3 teams with the most convincing and creative ideas were invited to discuss their implementation of the task in front of the audience of the ProcessNet Annual Meeting.

The process structure included an interconnection of chemical reaction and biotransformation of methane and carbon dioxide from a sewage treatment plant coupled with oxygen and hydrogen production in an electrolysis plant. A network of different plants enables the nationwide supply of methanol.
