The International Research Training Groups (IRTG) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) provide opportunities for joint doctoral training programs between German universities and universities abroad. The research and study programs are jointly developed and supervised. Under a recently granted IRTG the DFG promotes an interdisciplinary project between the at RWTH Aachen University (Group of Prof. Mitsos, AVT- Process Systems Engineering) and the University of Texas (Group of Prof. Baldea).
The chair of Process Systems Engineering (AVT.SVT) is part of Aachener Verfahrenstechnik, was founded in 1993 by Prof Wolfgang Marquardt and is directed since 2012 by Prof. Alexander Mitsos, PhD. Our research covers different topics of process systems engineering which link chemical engineering with computational engineering science.
It is focused on the development of basic principles of mathematical modeling, the combination of experiments and modeling, conceptual process design, process operations and control as well as the development of numerical algorithms and software-tools.
The methodological aspect is complemented by challenging applications in the process industries.
You have received an excellent University degree (Master or equivalent) in chemical engineering or a related subject such as industrial engineering, systems engineering, mathematics, or mechanical engineering.
You have demonstrated research capability. You have a very strong technical background as indicated by your excellent grades. You enjoy and are capable of interdisciplinary cooperation and you have very good communication skills. You have experience in modeling technical systems and in computations.

The successful candidate will be hired in the international graduate school Modern Inverse Problems, in collaboration with UT Austin. He/she will develop computational methods for demand-side management in process & chemical industry. He/she will collaborate with other researchers in SVT and the graduate school. In addition to supervision by Prof Mitsos, he/she will receive mentorship by other faculty in RWTH and UT Austin.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and for 3 years.
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary corresponds to level EG 13 TV-L.
