Membrane separation processes are often limited due to an inappropriate module design. Especially hydrodynamics at the membrane fluid interface have a tremendous impact on the process performance. To overcome mass transport limitations static mixers can be applied in tubular membranes. Static mixers need to be designed in a way to decrease the boundary layer at the membrane fluid interface while inducing as little pressure drop as possible.

This thesis aims to set up a model for the performance analysis of different static mixer geometries for tubular membranes. The following software packages will be used:

  • SolidWorks (CAD) and Comsol Multiphysics (CFD)
