AVT heavily involved in Exzellence-Strategy
Yesterday, around 4 p.m. was the moment professors and researchers at AVT had long been waiting for - the Federal Minister of Education and Research, Anja Karliczek, announced 57 new clusters of excellence, which were selected by the Excellence Commission from 88 funding applications.
From 1 January 2019, these projects will be funded with 385 million euros annually for 7 years. The funding provided by the German Federation and States supports top-level research at the participating universities and paves the way for new concepts in the fields of raw materials, energy and production.
The Aachener Verfahrenstechnik has a key role in "The Fuel Science Center - Adaptive Conversion Systems for Renewable Energy and Carbon Sources" (FSC). The FSC follows the approach of bio-hybrid fuels and tries to implement flexible and economic value chains as well as the (electro-)catalytic production of energy sources and chemicals.
FSC is building upon the success of the Cluster of Excellence "Tailor-made Fuels from Biomass". In addition to PIs from engineering and natural science at RWTH, FSC also integrates researchers from Forschungszentrum Jülich and two Max Planck Institutes.
We look forward to exciting research!
